The Uranian Society was founded to promote the Uranian Astrology System, as well as Cosmobiology and all matters represented by the planet Uranus – the ancient as well as the new, the visionary and the pioneering elements of astrology. The Uranian Society was first announced on July 26, 1980, at 5:43 PM EDT, by Charles Emerson and his students at his Manhattan apartment, during a celebration of his birthday. Charles Emerson was also one of the founders of the NCGR (National Council for Geocosmic Research) and a president of its New York Chapter. On May 18, 1985 at 3:15 p.m. EDT, New York, NY, The Uranian Society, through vote of its board, became the first SIG (Special Interest Group) of the NCGR.
